You will always own a piece of my heart

even as I lay here with my heart

broken into a million pieces

wondering if it was you

or me

or both of us

never truly meant to be

but believing we could've been

the princess and prince that

lived happily ever after in love

just like in the fairytales

I read growing up

but now the believable is hard to believe

as I lay here with the pieces of my broken heart

realizing maybe, we were never meant to be

the couple at the end of the story

but simply a chapter in one another's journey

to each other's own separate

happily ever afters

soon to be riding together

off towards the sunset

as I lay here amidst my broken-hearted pieces

beholden of a queen

who is ready, willing, and able
