Quote: "I can't believe I had to miss the cha-cha slide for this" - Hades pg. 187
I liked the concept of taking Disney characters and upgrading them to Disney fighters/guardians. I appreciated how the author chose diverse Disney characters to make up the gang of guardians, and how they reflect different backgrounds, worlds, perspectives, Disney films, and eras. The gentle humor throughout the book kept it alive and energetic. Snow White and the other guardians were well-developed characters.
While the writing was strong, it felt repetitious at times and was full of filler lines. The plot was intriguing, but it fell short of total distinctiveness and development for me. The plot surprise was anticipated from the start, and it felt rushed and as if it was done simply because of who the character was before joining the guardians.
I believe the book would have benefited greatly from visual aids such as photos or little drawings throughout to assist readers in interacting and understanding the characters and situation. I also believe that the plot twist should have been handled differently to make it more distinctive to this universe and story. Other than that, I enjoyed the narrative but will not be continuing with the remainder of the series.

Quotes: “Some scars are carved into our bones—a part of who we are, shaping what we become.” pg. 4
I appreciated the character growth, particularly with our primary female character. The style of writing was flowery but easy to read, and the vivid descriptions let me envision the surroundings, actions, and characters. I appreciated and loved the tenacity and dedication that Xingyin displayed in her efforts to liberate her mother, the Moon Goddess, from isolation. The romance was exciting and at times mysterious, but the back and forth in the love triangle every few seconds was a little tiresome and confusing. I liked how the author incorporated various elements of fairytales and mythology into this book, such as fox spirits and dragons, as it gave the book a fresh and distinct spin.
The plot twist surprised me and was well thought out by the author. The battle scenes were enjoyable, but several were overly long or lacked depth. Overall, I appreciated this book's interpretation of the Moon Goddess story, Xingyin's character growth, and her desire to not only save her mother from seclusion but also to achieve her goals in her unique way.

Review:
The illustrations weaved throughout the novel are magnificent and fantastic supplements to the book, providing useful visual aids to assist readers in visualizing the people and setting of the story while improving the descriptions in the accompanying text. I admire how the author seamlessly weaves Greek and Roman mythology characters like Princess Andromeda and Perseus into the novel without disrupting the broader plot. I appreciate the author's use of italics to distinguish between the characters' thoughts and spoken words. The writing was so vivid and imaginative that I was able to visualize the actions and people in great detail. In addition to the characters, the author's work elicited emotions in me. The author does an excellent job of addressing a variety of issues, including classism, slavery, abuse of authority, and rape. Titus, the story's villain, has a heartbreaking backstory that not only explains some of his behavior and actions but may also explain why this once good man is now a ruthless leader and father who believes he has no hope, remorse, or emotions to bring him back to the side of good. I liked and appreciated how the romances in the novel progressed throughout and how we got the backstories of how the various couples met, got to know each other, and even started developing love for each other. I admired how Medusa, renowned as an awful, villainous snake-haired character in many Greek mythology stories, is a lovely queen who engages in the dark arts of the serpentine witch covens in this novel. The distinct approach to the character of Medusa was refreshing and intriguing, providing insight into why she is regarded as a villain beyond her appearance. The plot and character development throughout the novel were well-planned, detailed, innovative, and outstanding. This book is far more than a historical romance. It is adventurous, intriguing, mythological, and even magical at moments, as well as a lovely story about the eternal power of love, friendship, and generosity.
One confusion I had was that it appears Perseus's friend Felix has died at the beginning, but he is subsequently revealed to be alive and well. So, I would propose that the author adjust the implication to let readers know right away that he survives despite being on the verge of death. Due to the pace being slower in the beginning, it was difficult to get into the tale at first. The only negative was that readers were not shown how Matthaios devised his plan for him and Sara to leave Rome, nor were they shown what happened to Felix and Perseus immediately after they were freed from slavery. I believe these sequences would enrich the story by providing readers with a thorough description of what happened to all the characters before they were reunited, completing the entire storyline finale.

A good collection of Chinese and Mythology short stories. The author did a nice job of putting the stories into sections making it easier for the reader to mark their reading spot. I enjoyed some of the stories such as the tale of the Moon Goddess and her husband. The introduction to the Gods and Goddesses was nicely done and easy to read. Some of the stories were too dense or felt like they got lost during the translation/editing process. I do recommend anyone reading a Flame Tree collection book to read a section at a time so they will not experience information burnout.

I enjoyed the book's bright artwork and images. While the photo layout was somewhat distracting, the photos served as excellent visual aids for readers. In terms of the writing, I felt like I learned more about the diet and hunting practices of Alaska's Native Peoples than about them. I believe the timeline on the last page should have been on the first page and served as a historical introduction. The author alluded to various issues, such as aboriginal peoples' battle with Russians and Canadians, but did not go into as much or any genuine detail as I would have preferred.
This book might have benefited from being lengthier and including more information about Alaska's various native groups.

The characters were all well-developed and distinctive in their own unique ways. I enjoyed how the author kept us guessing if the characters were nice or bad, such as Master Sarkkhan, Likkarn, and Akki. I appreciated the friendships between the bond servants. The minor details, such as why all of the bond servants' names contained two Ks, were intriguing and contributed to a better understanding of the bond and master structure. Jakkin's friendship with his dragon is lovely and heartwarming. The ambiance and setting were well-written and easy to imagine thanks to the author's vivid writing. The author's writing was effective, colorful, descriptive, and imaginative. The plot was well-developed and creative. The plot twists were exciting and unanticipated, adding to the story's overall appeal and uniqueness. Dragon's Blood, by Jane Yolen, is more than simply another dragon fantasy story. It is an adventurous fantasy story containing elements of science fiction, mystery, suspense, romance, and dystopian themes, as well as teachings on perseverance, determination, life, growing up, friendship, trust, honesty, love, and believing in one's ambitions.

The cover is visually appealing and gorgeous. I appreciated how the author sought to produce a book in memory of the eight Chinese passengers on the Titanic while also offering information about their treatment both on and off the ship. Personally, after reading this book, I would read the author's notes first, then read the book to lower any high expectations one might have going into the book. I enjoyed portions of the banter between the siblings Valora and Jamie, but I didn't like how Valora spent 99.9 percent of the book urging Jamie to come to America with her to fulfill her dream rather than theirs. I enjoyed Jamie's friendships with his buddies and thought they had the most character growth. Valora, our female main character, appears to have poor development as she bounces around from trying to persuade her brother Jamie to accompany her to America, disguising herself as a widow, and attempting to have a romance with Jamie's friend Bo, making it difficult to connect with her and see if she made any true connections with any of the other characters. The location of the Titanic was exciting, but the author's information and writing style made it difficult to determine where the individuals were on the ship in each scene. The plot idea was intriguing, and it was one of the reasons I bought the book in addition to the lovely cover, but it did not measure up to my expectations. The plot was slow and dragged on at times, and it took approximately 280 pages out of 361 for the Titanic's sinking to begin and for the pace to pick up. I also found it fascinating that the Titanic had just 20 lifeboats despite having about 2,000 passengers on board.
I thought the author did a good job of describing the confusion, chaos, and poor decision-making by both the passengers and the crew aboard the ship. As we read, many of the lifeboats were only half full; many thought the call to the lifeboats was only a drill; some were told they weren't allowed on because of their race or gender; and we get a glimpse into why safety drills are so important, as well as trying to remain as calm as possible.
<spoiler>
The book's ending, while devastating as we see Valora give up her life so that her brother Jamie might be saved, was frustrating to read and reminded me so much of the Titanic film's ending that I felt like I was rewatching the Jack and Rose sequence all over again. However, if one looks closely at Valora's dreams in the novel, one can discover foreshadowing of her death in them. <spoiler>
Overall, the book was okay, but the plot and writing style did not appeal to me. The Titanic narrative is heartbreaking whether you read, watch, or listen to it, and many mysteries surrounding the legendary sinking ship and its passengers remain unsolved to this day.
